ComReg publishes details of Meteor Mobile Communications 3G licence commitments
Wed, 17th Feb 2010
The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) today published details of the commitments made by Eircom Limited (Eircom) in the course of the competition for the fourth third generation mobile (3G) licence which was held in 2005. The licence was awarded in 2006 following the outcome of litigation in connection with this competition. Eircom subsequently transferred its 3G licence, along with all associated rights and obligations, to Meteor Mobile Communications Limited (Meteor) in June 2008.
During the course of this 3G licence competition, applicants made a range of voluntary offerings in order to secure the licence. Eircom, as the successful applicant, had its voluntary offerings ultimately included into its 3G licence as binding licence commitments.
ComReg had previously advised that it would publish these licence commitments once preliminary targets to initial commercial launches were met. As these targets have now been met, ComReg is now publishing the terms of Meteor’s 3G licence.
In 2004, ComReg published the rights of use of each of the other 3G licensees, being Hutchison 3G Ireland Ltd, Telefonica O2 Limited and Vodafone Ireland Limited which are available on in the Publications Section of www.comreg.ie.
