ComReg publishes its response to Consultation on the Market Review of Leased Lines

Wed, 6th Aug 2008
ComReg has today published a document setting out its response to Consultation on the Market Review of Leased Lines (ComReg Document 07/77). Leased lines are a key piece of the infrastructure that supports and underpins the competitiveness of telecommunication services for business in Ireland. They provide permanent capacity between two fixed points. Retail leased lines are typically used by businesses to connect office sites with voice or data services or to access the Internet. A wholesale leased line may be rented from Eircom by other operators to enable them to provide a retail leased line to their customers, or to provide other retail services, such as mobile voice services or Virtual Private Networks (“VPN”). A wholesale leased line may also be used by an operator seeking to extend parts of its network without there being a direct corresponding retail service.

This document (08/63) proposes a number of obligations on eircom in relation to the provision of wholesale terminating segments of leased line services. Please see the attached document for further details.
